Support Groups

How do support groups help?

  • Support groups are small gatherings of individuals who meet regularly for Christ-centered
discussion and education to impart hope for those transforming out of homosexuality.

  • Relying on a support group alone will greatly diminish the success of your healing
journey.  Strengthening your relationship with Jesus Christ, and building healthy relationships
with other believers is what healing is all about.

Rules of Engagement for support groups:
As a safeguard, we require all participants
to fill out an
application which must
accompany you on your first visit
(email us for the
password to access the application)
.  In addition, you
must sign a statement of agreement and
confidentiality
to participate in a small group.

In order to experience the safety and well being
necessary for establishing trust within the
support group, the following seven (7) qualities
are required:

  1. Confidentiality – what is said at the
    ministry stays at the ministry
  2. Responsibility – take personal
    responsibility for your healing journey.
  3. Acceptance – show unconditional love,
    acceptance and grace
  4. Respect – appreciate and value one
    another.
  5. Honesty – Commit to rigorous honesty
    and principles of truth
  6. Adaptability – be flexible and willing to
    take risks
  7. Encouragement – build up and affirm
    one another

Participants are to do the following:
  • Use first names only or pseudo names
  • Show courtesy and respect to others
  • Wear proper attire
  • Be prompt
  • Participate in discussions & exercises

Participants are to refrain from the
following
:
  • Cross talking
  • Interrupting out of turn
  • Cross counseling or offering unsolicited
    advice
  • Touching others in the group
  • Giving details about sexual encounters
    or places visited
  • Revealing names of people or places
  • Asking personal questions of other
    group participants
  • Using foul or vulgar language
  • Belittling or criticizing others in the group
  • Sexual involvement or emotional
    dependency with other group members

    outside of the support group.

Other Services:

Resource Library - We loan out books, tapes, videos, and DVDs that pertain to homosexuality to
Bridge of Hope participants.  These resources are not always available in Christian bookstores.

Speaker's Bureau - Bridge of Hope can provide on-site testimony sharing and educational
presentations for pastors, churches, youth leaders, etc. Our goal is to equip church leaders and
members to understand and provide compassionate, Christ-centered pastoral care for individuals
wanting to leave homosexuality. Speaker's Bureau representatives include those who have
experienced healing of their own sexual identity, behavior, and orientation.  We can also recommend
other nationally known speakers.
